Mid 19th century Lambalo Kazak.

Here is a rare Lambalo Kazak Rug in full pile and in excellent condition. There are several small repairs that are essentially completely invisible front and back. Lambalo’s are a revered type of Kazak long sought after by collectors so it is rare to see a great example in any venue.

Warp: Wool, Z3S ivory.

Weft: Wool Z2S, 2 –5 shoots red.

Pile: Wool Symmetrical knot.

Density: 7-8 H, 7-8 V

Sides: Wool 2 cords of 2 warps each, overcast red.

Ends: Upper – ½ inch red kilim folded over. Ends: Lower 1 inch red kilim then warp loops.

Size: Approximately 8 ft. 2 inch by 4 foot 10 inches (2.49 by 1.47)

Colors: Cranberry, pomegranate, deep madder red, teal blue, ivory, light to deep cornflower blue, peach, lapis, midnight blue walnut.

Kazak rug of so-called ‘Lambalo’ design,. Azerbaijan, southwest Caucasus. May be from the Azeri village of Kaimagly. Inscribed and dated 1335 AH (1916-17 CE). 4 ft. 7 in. x 2 ft. 9 in. 1.40m. x 0.79m.

Condition: Small re-weaves, cut all round; rugs of this group usually have multiple borders

Approximately 7ft. 7in. by 4ft. 4in. (2.31 by 1.32m). Third quarter 19th century oxidized charcoals with some repiling, losses to selvages, foldwear, losses to end guard stripes, holes, splits, 3 by 1 inch cobbled repair.

This strikingly beautiful carpet is reminiscent of Talisch carpets with the plain inner panel and the main border, but with its thick, stacked pile proves to be a primordial kasak carpet. Unusually, the blue of the fund is only a small human figure. 226 x 147 cm. Smaller repiled areas, receive excellent for age.

Graphically very impressive knotwork whose bright red-ground Fond occupied by the typical emblem like diamond ornaments in three-row arrangement. Brilliant is the color space that is enhanced by the complementary contrast of reds and greens. Concise for the region is the broad context in several borders. Very bold knotwork with monumental aura. 360 x 190 cm. Corroded brown, otherwise excellent condition in the pile.

Fachralo Kazak rug. First quarter 20th century. Approximately 8 ft.11 in. by 5 ft. 4 in.

On the basis of the format, color, design and particularly the borders, the rug can be attributed to Lambalo in the gardabani area of the Republic of Georgia.
