A remarkably beautiful, pattern valid copy of this rare Kasak pattern group which includes in addition to the Sternkasaks the most magnificent among the Caucasian village rugs of the 19th century.

Warp: wool, Z2S, ivory, light grey
Weft: wool, Z2S red, 2 – 5 shoots
Pile: wool, symmetric knot
Density: 6 – 7 H, 8 – 9V c
Sides: 2 cords of two warps each, overcast extends into last row of pile.
Ends: Upper incomplete, warp fringe, lower – 1/2 in. killem (incomplete) warp fringe.
Colors: madder, eggshell, indigo, peacock, marigold, seal brown.

Approximately 7ft. 11in. by 5ft. 7in. (2.41 by 1.70m.) First half 19th century oxidized browns, rewoven side and end guard borders, foldwear, scattered repiling, rewoven corner, rewoven area one side, smaller scattered reweaves.

Size: ca. 268 x 157 cm
A highly important South Caucasian rug of considerable age, clearly an ancestor of the later Pinwheel group of Kazaks. The drawing is in style closely related to Caucasian silk embroideries. Preserved in the original size, several old restorations, visible wear.
