Full Description: A beautifully woven sumak panel with complex, bold medallions set off by the brilliant white of undyed cotton.
Qeydar Khamseh Shahsavan Mafrash Front 1st half 19th C
Origin: North West Persia, Azerbaidjan, 1st half 19th c.
Size: ca. 53x95cm
Notes: Very finely woven sumakh panel in pleasant colors originating from Qeydar, a small town south of Zandjan in the Khamseh district. Minor reweaves in the outer border; in good condition.
Rare Shahsavan pile mafrash, late 19th century
Location: Moghan or Khamseh region, south Caucasus or north west Persia, late 19th century.
Size: Each long panel is 1 ft. 7 in. x 3 ft. 4 in. Overall, the bag is 0.48 m. x 1.02 m.
Condition: Very few all pile mafrash have been published. This example is lacking its plainweave ‘envelope’ top.
