Yomut Oy
“The skeleton of an “Oy”, the residence of the cattle-raising “Yomut” Turkman tribes. These herdsmen live in portable “Oys” with wooden frames covered with mats. The tents are cylindrical in the bottom and dome-shaped on top. They are composed of three sections of “Târem” (the Oy’s wall), “Uqs”, which are bow-shaped sticks placed on top of the “Târem” making the top, and “Tuynuk” which is a wheel-shaped ring placed in the center of the tent top to which “Uqs” are fixed. Yomud Ogurdjali Carpet
Origin: West Turkestan, mid-nineteenth century
Warp: Wool, Z2S, ivory ash mix.
Weft: Wool Z2S (loosely plied) 2 shoots dark brown.
Pile: Wool symmetrical knot.
Density: 8H, 10-12V.
Sides: Wool 1 cord of 5 warps, overcast in alternate bands of terracotta, and blue bands.
Ends: Warp fringe
Size: Approximately 9ft. 10in. by 8ft. (3m. by 2.44m.)
Colors: dark violet brown, ivory, deep teal blue, terracotta, deep lapis, cerulean blue, ochre.

Notes on Condition: Good condition with original ends and side finishes.

Yomud Yolami (Tent Band)

Size: 1392 x 46 cm.
Description: Complete tent band. The knots are over 3 warps so that the knot cannot be seen from the back. The band is decorated with geometric tree ornaments with animals at each end.
Condition: Somewhat spotted, small age damage, very good condition.

Notes on Condition: Minor traces of wear and age, good colors, well drawn motifs.
Yomud Tent Band

Notes on Condition: Damaged; cut several times and joined again; some holes and worn areas.
